AT HOME

  • January 19th 2025 7.30 p.m  Elderly (?) Lady sitting in the armchair in the front room. Vanished immediately Kathy entered the room. Interesting that we moved into the house on January 18th 2013.
  • 'Roger' (believed to have Downs' Syndrome) has been asked not to enter the bedroom during the hours of darkness. He seems to be complying
  • 'Roger' became extremely upset while a somewhat graphic war film was showing on TV. He ran out of the room clearly distressed. Kathy now checks he is not present (or advises him to leave) if anything unsuitable comes on.
  • A biscuit packet on a side table was clearly rustling one evening. No one was near it. Kathy thinks it was Roger snaffling a biccie.
  • Saffie has been seen giving pony rides to children. Franc, too, visits occasionally to ensure all is well.

  • October 2025: A simple family gathering to bury the ashes of a good friend who passed away in July. At the end of our little service, Kathy clearly heard the words 'Roger, over, out' from him. RIP Mal.

The Wedding - May 10th 2025

Andrew Bater - Kathy Hollick
A wonderful sunny day, with a service at our local church, and a reception held in a marquee in one of the farm's fields

One of our guests was a genuine medium, Vara (mentioned in the book). She heard an approaching horse-drawn wagon, ferrying a group of laughing and chattering men and women in their Sunday Best approaching the church - people from the past from out home and the farm. They had been preparing for weeks. The cart was decked out with flowers and ribbons. Later, they all sat in the corner of the field near the marquess, enjoying a picnic and scrumpy. Apparently there were a few sore heads the next day!

Prior to the reception, our farm guests attended to service itself in the packed church.

Note the pew on the right-hand side of the photo is apparently empty. It isn't...

May 11th 2025: Family-attended Sunday Lunch at The Exeter Inn, Chittlehamholt
Vara was bombarded by many 'ghosts' all wanting to wish the bride and groom well, and chat to Vara. Rowena (Vara's daughter) meanwhile 'chatted' with various pets that remained or visited the pub. (Details to follow when I get time to write them up).
From this date onwards Kathy discovered that she could hear and speak to our friends  as well as see them.

MORE NORTH DEVON
ENCOUNTERS

In order to protect privacy, names and actual locations are not published here

Pub near Umberleigh Summer 2025: Kathy made contact with a young boy (Edwardian period) who was confined to the family living quarters upstairs. He desperately wanted to come downstairs to see the pub parrot, but was only permitted to do so under supervision.

Farmhouse November 2025: A man's face can be clearly seen at a window, with a woman next to him (on his left). There was no one in this part of the house when the photograph was taken. The image is not clear (cropped from the full photo of the house in order to maintain privacy) but the man is wearing Victorian dress.

He could be John Rolle, 1st Baron Rolle (1750– 3 April 1842) The house photographed was built by Lord Rolle in 1840 on a site of 3 acres and bought for £200.

Updates of Encounters mentioned
in the book

  • Apparently the 'babysitter' ghost at a couple's house in Ilfracombe might be called Alice

Out & About
Beyond North Devon

South Wales, near Cricklands Equestrian Centre. Investigating a nearby castle's ruins, Kathy very firmly felt a presence of hostility and an awareness to leave. She left.
